      Amnesty International is looking for a Youth Development and Campaigns Officer for a fixed term contract until December 2011 based in Hong Kong. As part of the Asia Pacific Youth Project, you’ll be responsible for facilitating campaigning activities as well as supporting the skills development of young people in the Asia Pacific to work together on human rights campaigns.
       
      Your previous experience in campaigning and mobilization in the Asia Pacific and working with a diverse range of young people to develop their advocacy and organizing skills, using online communications tools, means that your job satisfaction is highest when people work together to create impact.
       
      You have an understanding of civil society organizations in the Asia Pacific region; have used a range of campaigning techniques and some experience in volunteer coordination and capacity building.
       
      Adapting quickly to change and working collaboratively, your excellent communications skills and genuine interest in social change makes this a conscious next step for you.
      Applicants must have an excellent command of written and spoken English, additional langauges are highly desiable.

      AIIS PURPOSE: The International Secretariat, which operates from a number of sites around the world, gathers and communicates accurate and action-oriented human rights information globally. We campaign for meaningful human rights change; enable effective human rights activism and work to persuade governments and other actors to uphold universal human rights standards.  We provide strategic leadership, support and advice to the Amnesty International movement globally, fostering Amnesty International’s contribution, presence and public accountability throughout the world.

      Job Description1. To facilitate APYP Networks Activism by:
      �X Convene, advise, administrate and monitor campaign working groups established to work on APYP key campaign themes to ensure that they are able to effectively implement their advocacy and campaigning plans and mobilize the youth in the network to create Human Rights impact.
      �X Coordinating the scheduling of APYP Networks action calendar according to stakeholders capacities, balancing and prioritizing actions across the region based on APYP plans and aligning with the International Youth Calendar to ensure that key opportunities for mobilization are taken and that action opportunities are balanced within the capacity of the network.
      �X Coordinating regular feedback on good practice in effective and creative actions and ensure exchange of experience across APYP Networks working in conjunction with the APYP Team and relevant IS campaign teams to ensure the continuing learning of the network activists and maximize the effectiveness of mobilization.
      �X Contributing to the development of creative campaign materials and provide information and materials as appropriate for use by APYP Networks to ensure that the network has the necessary campaign tools and information to create Human Rights impact.

      2. To facilitate the capacity development of APYN activists by:
      �X Ensuring that the network members have access to adequate Human Rights Education materials for generic HRE and thematic HRE to enable them to engage with and be motivated by action opportunities.
      �X Supporting the development of activism skills through APYP Networks action calendar, inclusive of collaborative campaigning projects to ensure that activists have sustainable skills development which will support the sustainability of the network. 
      �X Working in collaboration with the Network Facilitator, facilitate constituency based capacity building (e.g. tactical constituency building) to support activists to develop the skills they need to support the network and activism.
      �X Develop, coordinate and facilitate the on-going activism capacity building calendar (e.g. Youth Ambassador initiative), ensure that there is effective skills sharing in the network, connecting the network with opportunities from outside the network and linking with other opportunities across the movement (e.g. sections/ structures).

      3. General:
      �X With the support of the Project Coordinator oversee the work of volunteers and consultants from time to time to ensure that the project work is implemented effectively.
      �X Undertake monitoring and evaluation activities in collaboration with team to enable the learning to be captured, shared and utilized to improve the project.
      �X Keep up to date with the developments in the fields of activism and key thematic areas relating to the priorities of the network to ensure the ongoing development and innovation in activism in the network in line with developments in the field.
      �X Supporting the network to develop towards sustainability inline with the GINI  concept to ensure that the network is developed with a minimum requirement for
      infrastructure.

      Full time staff receive 27 days per annum plus two Amnesty International grace day and statuatory and national public holidays.

      Amnesty International provide a Death in Service benefit of 4 x gross salary.
      Pension:
      After six consecutive months of service staff are automatically enrolled in the Amnesty International Superannuation Scheme. This is a defined contribution to which Amnesty International contributes 7.5% of gross salary and will match individual employee contributions up to an additional 3%.
      Probation:
      A six month probation period will be included in the contract for this position.

      �X Working in collaboration with the Campaign Facilitator, to facilitate constituency based capacity building (e.g. tactical constituency building) to support activists to develop the skills they need to support the network and activism.
      �X Supporting the Youth Ambassador initiative with communications issues to ensure that they are able to access peer support and skills sharing.
      �X Organization and servicing of international meetings and consultations including Financial/travel administration, drafting and monitoring the budget, make practical arrangements for meetings relating to network facilitator role to ensure the smooth running of meetings and that they are able to reach their aims.
      �X Support peer to peer capacity building and communications within the networks to ensure that activists are capitalizing on the opportunities available to them and the development of sustainable skills within the network.
